By Grabthar's Hammer, By The Suns Of Worvan, Here Comes Galaxy Quest The Series!

It looks like The Evil Dead isn't the only cult classic that's being adapted into a series (Ash Vs Evil Dead will premiere on Starz later in the year). Galaxy Quest, a science fiction comedy released in 1999 starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman and Sam Rockwell, is set to follow suit.
The Star Trek parody was a pleasant surprise upon its release, making fun of familiar sci-fi tropes while at the same time being respectful of the source material and its many fans. It's since become a cult favourite, and stands proudly among the handful of successful lampoon movies such as Airplane, Naked Gun, Top Secret and Hot Shots.
It's not yet known if this is going to be a reboot or a sequel or if any of the original cast will return, but Robert Gordon, who co-wrote the film with David Howard, and original director Dean Parisot are in negotiations to spearhead the series.
It's kind of a shame we're getting a Star Trek parody series before a new legitimate Trek series, but the film is a classic and with the masterminds behind the original on board this might be something to get excited about. Maybe they could acknowledge the JJ Abrams' Star Trek reboot, with the original Galaxy Quest cast out of work because their series has been rebooted and their characters recast with gorgeous sexy young people. I think there's great comic potential in both young and old versions of Commander Taggart being abducted and having to fight over who is the real commander.
This isn't the only film from Paramount Pictures library that's been turned into a series. Shutter Island is being developed for HBO, Shooter has a pilot order for USA, and School of Rock is going straight to series at Nickelodeon.
What do you guys think? Are you excited, or do you just wish they'd greenlight a new Star Trek series already.
